Drill Camp 2010

Last post on November 2009.

Sudah hampir 5 bulan sejak posting terakhir saya. Ternyata tidak mudah untuk mengisi sebuah blog secara konstan. But anyway, here I am. Mencoba untuk aktif kembali setelah sekian bulan hilang dari peredaran. Haha.. Berikut cerita saya 3 hari kebelakang :

Tanggal 16-18 April 2010 saya mengikuti kegiatan Drill Camp yang diadakan oleh BB Jakarta( Buat yang belum tau, BB itu singkatan dari Boys' Brigade. Untuk mengetahui lebih lanjut, silakan ketik "boys' brigade" di om google :D ). Event ini diadakan di sebuah sekolah bernama Candle Tree School, Serpong, Tangerang. Btw, saya tidak datang sebagai peserta drill tetapi sebagai trainer loh :D. Anggota-anggota yang ikut merupakan anak-anak kelas 6, 7/1 SMP, dan 8/2 SMP.

Kegiatan dimulai dari tanggal 16 siang tetapi saya baru datang pada malam harinya disebabkan adanya ujian di kampus saya yang baru selesai jam 5. Tiba di sekolah Candle Tree sekitar pukul 9, anak-anak sedang dilatih LBB nya dengan teman saya, yang juga datang dari Bandung sebagai trainer. Pukul 21.30 latihan dihentikan dan anak-anak diajak bermain dan bernyanyi sebelum mereka diperbolehkan tidur pada pukul 22.00.

Hari kedua, sekitar pukul 2 pagi semua anak dibangunkan tiba-tiba dan disuruh menghafalkan BB Object sebelum mereka boleh tidur lagi. "The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline and self respect and all that tends toward a true Christian manliness". Cukup pendek but still there were some who could not memorize it :( . Setelah sedikit hukuman buat beberapa orang, 20 menit kemudian semuanya sudah diperbolehkan untuk kembali ke dunia mimpi mereka..

Pagi harinya pada pukul 7 semua anggota sudah berkumpul di lapangan untuk melakukan apel pembukaan. Setelah itu,semua makan sarapan di kantin sekolah lalu mengikuti devotion di aula sebelum akhirnya mereka memasuki latihan yang melelahkan. I haven't had this much fun for a while. I used to be a BB's member too in Medan before I moved to Bandung. Jadi, dapat kembali melakukan kegiatan BB membuat saya excited. Latihan drill dibagi manjadi beberapa sesi yang diselingi break beberapa kali. Para anggota sendiri dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok yaitu Basic 1, Basic 2, dan Intermediate. Basic 1 dilatih oleh seorang officer BB, Basic 2 oleh saya sendiri :D, dan Intermediate oleh teman yang saya sebutkan di atas tadi.

Latihan drill berakhir pukul 5 sore dan semua diperbolehkan untuk mandi. Jam 6 kami makan malam dan 6.30 ada sedikit praise and worship yang dipimpin anggota dari kelompok Intermediate. Everybody was singing and jumping around and I was so happy to see that. Sedikit iri ketika melihat mereka. Wish I could get back at the moment I was their age. Haha..

3rd day. I learnt something today. Pagi hari ketika kebaktian, beberapa orang yang merasa ngantuk segera meminta izin untuk mencuci muka mereka biar segar. Berbeda dengan saya. Ketika saya mengantuk di kelas kuliah, saya malah membiarkan kantuk itu menguasai saya dan akhirnya saya tidur di kelas. Malu dengan diri saya sendiri, saya bertekad untuk tidak tidur di kelas lagi mulai kuliah besok!

Siangnya jam 11-an, camp ditutup dengan apel penutup. Tugas saya akhirnya selesai. Dan besok kegiatan saya akan berganti dari mengajar menjadi belajar. Haha..

National Exam, Do We Need It?

In Indonesia, every third grade students of junior high school and senior high school must take the national exam held by National Education Ministry. The result of this exam determines whether the participants may graduate or not. At first, this method seems to be the best way to decide who may take a higher education. However, as time passed, the validity of such an exam is seriously called into question recently.

This national exam, which is held annually, is made to test students’ knowledge about what they have learnt for the last three years. The Education Minister wished that with the implementation of the national exam, results of studying for 3 years could be known; furthermore, raising Indonesia education standard by increasing the exam’s passing grades. It is true that these exams have increased Indonesia education somehow, but it also has worsened the students’ morale.

Students’ opinions about the exam are, unfortunately, different from those of the ministry. They think the national exam as a burden for them. Mastering three-year materials may not be a problem for some gifted students, but most students feel it is difficult. To compound to it, since 2008, there are six subjects tested in a national exam, which make seems more difficult to pass the exam, if not impossible.

Being afraid that they cannot pass the exam; thus cannot graduate from school, students start to use any possible ways so that they could pass the exam. Some may study harder in order to pass the exam while many others prefer an easier way. Cheat. It is undeniable that there are many students who try to cheat during the exam. Take my classmates, for example. Only a few chose to take the hard way while the rest prefer the shortcut. These behaviors make the national exams meaningless.

Finally, teachers who are appointed as the invigilator in the exams take the action of the students to their benefits. They, indirectly, are asking money or any other facilities from the students in exchange for the freedom to ask or see friends’ answers. I experienced it myself. When I took the exam last year, one of the invigilators asked why there is no coffee and magazine provided. Not only teachers, but some of the Ministry’s staffs also take these advantages. Exams questions which are supposed to be kept confidential are leaked out one or two days before the exams. They sell the questions along with the answers to whoever willing to buy.

Overall, the implementation of the national exams is really ironic. Money spent to hold the exams is not little, but cheating occurs during the exam, making it meaningless. The initial purpose of the national exam, which is to decide whether a particular student may graduate, becomes not justified. It would be better if the national exams are used merely to check students’ knowledge and let the teachers who have taught the students decide whether it is acceptable to graduate them; thus, letting them face the real world.

Soal UTS II Kalkulus 1A

Pada suatu Minggu yang cerah... eh, salah..

Minggu siang yang suram.. Hujan ga berhenti-berhenti. Berhubung lagi tidak ada kerjaan, saya memutuskan untuk berbagi soal ujian Kalkulus pada Jumat lalu.. Hitung-hitung sekalian belajar menulis latex.. :)

Nih soalnya :

2. Diketahui segitiga sama kaki ABC dengan panjang alas, AB, 2 cm dan tinggi 1cm. Tentukan ukuran persegi panjang di dalam segitiga ABC, yang sebuah sisinya terletak pada sisi AB dan mempunyai luas terbesar.

3. Misalkan
(a) Sketsalah grafik fungsi pada selang [0,3].
(b) Nyatakan dalam bentuk limit Jumlah Riemann ( tidak perlu dihitung).
(c) Hitunglah dengan menggunakan Teorema Dasar Kalkulus.

4. Jika fungsi yang kontinu pada dan = , hitunglah .

5. Diketahui daerah dibatasi oleh grafik dan .
(a) Sketsalah daerah
(b) Hitunglah volume bedan putar yang terjadi bila daerah diputar mengelilingi garis .

Akhirnya selesai juga.. Phew..

Diligence Leads to Success!

Senin malam, 16 November 2009.

Walaupun hari Jumat nanti ada UTS Kalkulus, bukannya belajar materi ujian, saya malah ngerjain soal matematika OSN PTI 2009. Awalnya, saya cukup yakin dapat menyelesaikan soal-soal tersebut tanpa banyak masalah. In fact, banyak soal yang ga bisa saya selesaikan.Soal-soal itu lebih susah dari perkiraan saya.

Well, mungkin sebenarnya bukan soalnya yang susah tapi saya yang tambah bodo. Saya sudah melupakan semua pelajaran-pelajaran yang dulu diajarkan oleh guru matematik saya. Sempat down sebentar dan menyesal, kenapa dulu saya tidak belajar dengan sungguh-sungguh. Sering tidur di kelas bimbingan atau bahkan bolos. Sekarang, saya malah merindukan saat-saat ketika masih ada bimbingan.

Menjelang tidur, saya SaTe sejenak. Saya tertegun membaca topik hari itu. Tulisan " Diligence Leads to Success" terpampang di depan saya. Saya lanjutkan membaca keseluruhan Di bagian penutupnya juga terdapat tulisan seperti ini :

"Keep doing the basics and repeat it a million times."

Selesai membaca tulisan tersebut, perasaan saya lebih baikan. Sadar bahwa untuk mencapai sukses itu diperlukan ketekunan dan kegigihan, saya putuskan untuk lebih rajin lagi berlatih soal-soal. Dan yang terutama, untuk tidak tidur lagi di kelas biar apa yang diajarkan oleh dosen bisa saya terima semuanya.

Writing Task : Lebaran Holiday

I am taking a writing class for this semester. So far, I have written a few writing which are originally homeworks from my teacher.

I was told to write a paragraph about my holiday on Lebaran. Here it is :

"I am in the middle of my two-week holiday and would like to talk a bit about it. Today is the eleventh day of my holiday, which means classes will be started again in four days. There was nothing really special in these past eleven days. I mostly played computer games in my room, went out only when I wanted to fill my stomach. I went to my seniors' place to play table tennis once then we played Dota at an internet cafe nearby the next day. By the way, I did not spend my holiday having fun the whole time. Having a calculus quiz on the Monday, I spent some time to review the lessons. I think I will not be going anywhere else for the rest of the holiday except this Saturday. I and my friends planned to go jogging in the morning of the day at Sabuga."

Well, it is far from good; therefore, I will be glad to receive any inputs..

Belom tau mau nulis apa.. Hmm, salah satu tujuan saya membuat blog ini adalah untuk belajar membuat tulisan yang baik dan menarik. Jadi, ditunggu aja ya.. :)
